Toyota introduced the second generation Corolla in 1970. Like its E10 predecessor, the E20 was also produced in Port Melbourne as well as in its native Japan. It featured updated styling in response to the 'coke bottle' shapes of various American coupes of the time and sat on a longer wheelbase than the E10. All were powered by simple carb-fed OHV four-cylinder 1.2 litre motor with a four-speed, all-synchro manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. Coupes, Sedans, Station Wagons and even a Van bodystyle was available while a swaybar added to the front suspension contributed to a vastly improved ride.
