The Shannons Story

Shannons was the brainchild of the late Robert Shannon who created an insurance business in the early seventies run by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts.

Shannons insurance products are specially tailored to the individual needs of motoring enthusiasts and relies on direct contact with clients rather than through other agents or brokers.

Today, as part of the Suncorp Group, Shannons has offices in all state capitals, the ACT and Northern Territory. Across Australia Shannons is the first choice of motoring enthusiasts when it comes to insuring their special cars, motorcycles and homes, as well as the day to day cars of owners.

If you could own any car, what would it be & why?

BMW 2002 Turbo, I’ve owned 2002’s before and they are such great driving cars, huge amounts of fun and they look great. The 2002 Turbo was the first factory turbocharged car BMW produced and was very aggressively styled with wheel flares, spoiler, front air dam and ‘turbo’ decals. It is a truly iconic piece of automotive history and would be equally awesome to drive and look at!

What aspect of motoring do you enjoy the most?

The sunny Sunday drive/ride, it almost doesn’t matter where to or what for, the right car/bike makes every trip an adventure.

What do you like most about working at Shannons?

I really enjoy working for Shannons as I have been able to continue to combine promotions and marketing with my love of cars into one job. Prior to working with Shannons I worked in promotions and my hobby was cars and car racing. I still race my Mustang occasionally and enjoying a huge variety of promotions and car shows that we now Sponsor. The most rewarding part of my job has been the 100's or is it 1000's? of Customers that come up to me to say hi at events and many have become friends ...after nearly 14 years it really has become a Shannons Club!

If you could own any car, what would it be & why?

The car that I would love to own even though it's not able to be driven on the road is a factory 935 Porsche Race car. It's the most awesome looking Porsche ever made, because under all the flared guards, wings and Spoilers is the remnants of 911 Porsche Road going car.

What aspect of motoring do you enjoy the most?

I love the touring car masters & Historic car racing. As an entrant or just as a spectator... But am currently enjoying the latest craze 'Coffee and cars' I am a Coffee nut and it's a chance to drive my 911Sc Porsche to the event.

When did you start working at Shannons?

I started working for Shannons in March 2012.

What do you like most about working at Shannons?

Not only do I genuinely love everyone that I work with (Shannons employ some very cool, down-to-earth people), but I love the conversations I have on a daily basis with our clients. We have common ground with every one of them; we all love cars or bikes! Quite regularly, I’ll chat to someone with the exact same interest as me and it just feels like I’ve known that person my whole life.

What cars/bikes do you currently own?

I currently own a 2004 Mitsubishi Evo VIII MR. Her name is Evelyn and I bought her in 2011. I daily a 2015 Mitsubishi ASX and I tell myself it looks like an Evo; it’s the only way I can sleep at night. After having a child, I decided I needed something a bit ‘practical’.

What cars/bikes have you previously owned?

I haven’t had too many cars; I have over-commitment issues. My last daily was a Mitsubishi Galant VR-4. It was V6, twin-turbo and all-wheel-drive; an absolute sleeper. I loved it.

If you could own any car, what would it be & why?

My dream car is the NSX-R, they’re about the same age as me and they were the first Japanese ‘supercar’; a total game changer. It was the car I fell in love with as a child; it started my obsession with cars.

What aspect of motoring do you enjoy the most?

The thing about cars for me is the feeling of freedom you get; it compares to nothing else. Also, the nostalgia of childhood memories. I’m a self-proclaimed ‘daddy’s girl’ and a lot of our bonding time was spent around cars. I hope I can use this love for cars in the future to build memorable moments with my own son.
