When you take out insurance the agreed value of your vehicle includes the value of any accessories and modifications that are fitted to your vehicle and paint protection (motor vehicles and motorcycles only).

Shannons gives you the option to choose your own repairer or it can manage the repair process for you.

Or let Shannons take care of the process for you and arrange a suitable repairer from the list of Preferred Repairers. To book your repair, lodge an online claim to get started.

Salvage Rights

With our Comprehensive Car Insurance, if your vehicle is over 35 years old and your vehicle is a total loss, you will keep the unrepaired vehicle.
* NOTE: Salvage rights will not apply if your vehicle is stolen and we settle your claim as a total loss.

Additional covers

  • New vehicle after a total loss for vehicles less than 2 years old, if you're the first registered owner
  • Hire car after a not at fault incident, while your regular use vehicle is off the road
  • One excess free windscreen or window glass replacement or repair claim, for the period of insurance
  • Repairs to your vehicle authorised by Shannons are guaranteed for its life
  • Up to $1,000 per incident for emergency accommodation if your vehicle is unable to be driven and you are more than 100km from home
  • Up to 21 days car hire following theft of your regular use vehicle

Shannons Roadside Assist

A flat tyre, flat battery or any type of breakdown when you're out on the road in your car can happen when you least expect it. Shannons Roadside Assist is a dedicated 24/7 roadside assistance service, available Australia-wide for your car when you need it most. (Available for breakdowns that occur from 24 hours after purchasing Shannons Roadside Assist)

Hire car after an event for unlimited days

After an incident covered by your policy, if your regular use motor vehicle is damaged and cannot be safely driven, is being repaired or has been stolen, we will arrange and pay the reasonable cost of a hire car that is a similar make and model to your motor vehicle using our provider. Terms, conditions, limits and exclusions apply.

Frequency of Motor Vehicle Use

Laid Up Cover

If your car is off the road and is not being driven, our laid up cover will reduce your premium.

Limited Use Cover

If you don't drive your car regularly, special premium rates may be available.

Club Plate Cover

If your car is registered with Club Plates special premium rates may be available.

Payment Options & Discounts

Paying your premiums

You can pay your premium annually, but we won't charge you any extra to pay monthly, quarterly or half-yearly.

Flexible excess

If you have Comprehensive cover (regular use), you can choose a ’Flexible excess’ that applies in addition to your ’Basic excess’ to reduce your premium.

Protected no claim discount

Shannons rewards you for your good claims history with a No Claim Discount (NCD) that applies separately to each of your comprehensively insured vehicles.

After you have remained on an NCD of 65% for 3 consecutive years it will become protected.

Multi-vehicle discount

If you insure more than one vehicle on your policy (such as special vehicles and your daily drive), you might be eligible for a multi vehicle discount.

Multi-policy discount

If you have an active motor policy with Shannons and then take out a home and contents policy with us, you might receive a discount of up to 10% off your home and contents premium.
