The Panther Kallista is a Thirties-inspired sports car with attractive roadster lines on proven Ford mechanicals. The car is powered by the 1.6-litre OHC CVH engine found in the European Ford Escort, has a Sierra 5-speed manual gearbox, rack and pinion steering, Cortina Mark IV front end and Capri rear axle. The front windscreen and side windows are MG items and the bodywork is all-aluminium on a steel chassis, with leather-clad interior and weatherproof soft-top. Nice touches include the chrome wire wheels on 215/70X-14 tyres, Walnut dash and door cappings, luggage rack (with an internal luggage space behind the seats), radio/cassette with speakers in the doors and headrests and a heater/air conditioner unit. From the total Kallista production of 1,740 cars between 1982 and 1991, just three were officially imported into Australia when new, with approximately seven more coming in as private imports, making the car on offer here an exceptionally rare machine.
