In 1994 Ford's legendary Mustang was heavily revised with all new styling on an improved version of the Fox platform, boasting disc brakes on all four wheels (with the option of ABS), a wider track and longer wheelbase for better handling and many new safety features such as dual airbags.

The old four-cylinder engine was dropped in base models in favour of a 3.8-litre V6 with Borg-Warner five-speed manual gearbox as standard but popular options included the powerful 5-litre V8 and four-speed automatic transmission. The performance GT package included a 215bhp version of the V8 engine, quad shock suspension, bigger rims, sports seats, rear spoiler and fog lamps. Inside a power driver's seat and adjustable steering column made for a vastly improved driving position. With the success of the 1994 model, Ford left the Mustang alone for 1995 apart from minor detail changes and a total of 16,668 GT Convertibles were produced that year. The Mustang is a rare sight on Australian roads, with relatively few imported here, but spare parts and servicing present no problems making this the ideal modern classic convertible.
