The history of Suzuki’s RM series (with “RM” standing for Racing Model) dates back to 1975 and the model range quickly expanded to encompass everything from a pint-sized 50cc to powerful 400cc motocross bikes, proving hugely successful in off road classes around the world.  Introduced in 1977, the RM80 series was powered by a two stroke “Power Reed” single-cylinder engine with a bore and stroke of 48.3mm by 45.7mm, a compression ratio of 8.5:1 and six-speed transmission.  The RM80 series evolved over the next four decades; early models were air cooled and the original RM80B gave way to the RM80X in 1981, with signature yellow tank and mudguards.  Billed as a “pocket rocket ready to blast off the competition”, the RM80C featured new gas oil shocks and long-travel leading axle front forks.  Early Japanese motocross bikes are becoming increasingly collectible and make fantastic display pieces in any garage.
