Ford redesigned their model range for 1955, producing a new series that followed industry trends towards lower, wider and longer cars, along with a more powerful overhead-valve V8 replacing the old flathead at long last. Generating additional excitement was the addition of two new models, the Fairlane replacing the Crestline as the top trim level and the new Thunderbird personal sports coupe. Ford produced three different model lines of their regular passenger car range in 1955, with the base Mainline supplemented by the mid-range Customline and upmarket Fairlane, each available in a range of two and four-door saloons. Reserved exclusively for the top-of-the-range Fairlane were the stylish Victoria Coupes, dressed up with additional chrome and trim. The Victoria was a cleanly styled hardtop coupe in the classic mid-1950s American idiom, with plenty of chrome decoration, curves and rear fins. For buyers seeking even more flash, the Crown Victoria added so-called "tiara" roof treatment and the Crown Victoria Skyliner a transparent green perspex forward roof section. For those sunseekers wanting the full open air experience Ford even had the Sunliner, a proper convertible. Mechanically all 1955 Fords were available either as a six-cylinder or the new 272-cid V8 (some models could be ordered with the more powerful Thunderbird 292-cid V8 as well) along with a range of tramission options. The 1955 Ford Victoria is now considered a very collectible model by Blue Oval enthusiasts around the world and survivors are keenly sought after around the globe.
