Description
After initially being introduced as a 'sports' option for Chevrolet sedans in 1965, the Caprice became a model in its own right in 1966. Geared towards the full-size luxury end of the market (against the Ford LTD) it was offered in 'four-door hardtop' form as well as in Station Wagon and two-door hardtop forms. As befitting the top of the range, the Caprice was only available with V8 engines. Starting with a 283ci base motor in 1966, a 327ci small-block was also offered. Big-blocks could be had in 396ci and 427ci forms. For 1967 a new bodystyle was introduced along with the rest of the Chevy full-size range, offering smoother, modernised styling. The 283ci produced 195bhp through a two-barrel carburettor; 327s had 275bhp, 396s 325bhp and the 427 385bhp.
