Post-World War 2, Douglas resumed production of their sporting model range. They would return with an innovative horizontally-opposed 348cc twin laid across the frame which was announced in late-1945. The motorcycle built to house this engine was known as the T35 Mk 1, which commenced production in 1947. The new chassis utilised a 'pivoted fork' rear frame and the gearbox was built in-unit with the engine, the rear wheel being driven by a chain drive. Several refinements were made in the ensuing years, the Mk 3 of 1948 benefitting from revised cylinder heads designed by Freddie Dixon among numerous other quality improvements. The limited production Mk 4 saw a new rear sub-frame installed along with new toolboxes while the last-of-the-line Mk 5 came with an updated front mudguard and was essentially a refined version of the top-spec Mk 3 de Luxe.
