In production from 1959 until 1966, the Studebaker Lark was a medium-sized car available in two and four-door forms, with station wagon and convertible variants also available in certain countries. Although Studebaker was an American constructor, it had granted several licences around the world that allowed receiving countries to locally assemble the Lark. As well as Canada and Israel, an Australian company was granted a licence from late 1960. The Canada Cycle & Motor Company thus assembled Larks in Melbourne through to 1966.Six cylinder and 259cu in V8 versions were available in the first series with a choice of auto and manual transmissions, the base version being a column-mounted three-speed manual. They proved well-suited to the Australian conditions however did not sell particularly well, thanks on-going cost problems at the parent company and the local Ford, Holden and Chrysler competition. Comparatively rare today, the Lark remains well respected and under the radar today.
