The Nissan Motor Company introduced their B110 chassis to the Japanese Domestic Market in 1970. It was called the 'Datsun 1200' simply because that was the 1171cc engine would be rated as 1.2 litres when rounded up. In Japan the car was known as the 'Datsun Sunny 1200', the second-generation of the Sunny name and succeeding the earlier 1000 version. It was sold in several forms, with Coupe, Sedan, Wagon and Pickup varieties being sold not only in Japan but also in North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. There were several trim levels, with the 1200 Standard, GL and Deluxe options sharing a driveline, while the sportier GX had twin SU carburettors in place of the single Hitachi of the other models. Production of the B110 series continued in Japan through to 1973, however face lifted versions proved popular in South Africa where they remained on sale through 1975.
