The 18th series of Packard's were introduced to the public on August 8 1939. There were 4 Packard series in the range two junior series the 110 & 120, and two senior series the 160 & 180 available. There were also 3 chassis wheelbase lengths available , the 160coupe was built on the short 127 inch chassis. Both the 160 & 180 senior cars used the same brand new, what was then high compression engine, having a ratio of 6.45:1, using aluminium pistons and easily developing a healthy 160hp.Known as the 160 Club Coupe series no1803 and listing in Packard's Super 8 catalogue, there were several final body styles available this car being style no1375, the 6 wheel equipment model i.e. having dual side mounted tyres. Packard manufactured 98,000 cars for 1940, of these 1,900 of the complete 180 series and 5,662 of the complete 160 series cars.
