The F-Series pickups from Ford have been in constant production since their introduction way back in 1948 and the F-100 of 1953 proved Dearborn's designers were capable of combining practicality with good looks. Since 1978, the F-Series Ford has been the best selling truck in America and, by 1987, had become the best selling vehicle in the country, displacing passenger cars for the first time. The eleventh generation F-series trucks arrived in 2004 and aside from winning numerous awards, continued to set sales records year after year. Saleen, a tuning company with a long history of modifying Ford vehicles (they built the Ford GT supercar for the Blue Oval) finally turned their attention to the F150 in 2007. Described by Motor Trend as ?rolling thunder?, the Saleen S331 Sport Truck is a lot more than a bolt-on blower and body kit. Saleen took a two-wheel drive (FX2) SuperCab F150 and completely reworked the 5.4 litre V8, with a custom twin-screw supercharger, remapped the fuel injection system, added an intercooler, resulting in 450 hp at 5200 rpm and 500 lbs/ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The suspension was tuned, with new heavy-duty shock absorbers and massive 23-inch forged alloy wheels with matching 305/40R23 BFG tyres. All of this makes the Saleen S331 frighteningly quick, capable of reaching 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds and doing the quarter-mile in 15 seconds flat. Amazingly, Saleen achieved all this without sacrificing the F150's load carrying ability, as the payload and towing ratings remained unchanged.
