Description
First shown at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1990, the TVR Griffith was possibly the most important British sports car since the Jaguar E-type. If it had failed, the future of TVR would have been uncertain. Originally powered by a high-performance Rover V8, the early 4-litre cars produced 240hp and that engine in a lightweight fiberglass body delivered spectacular performance. However the ultimate Griffith was the 500, which in addition to an even-larger V8 engine featured upgraded brakes and suspension. Powered by a 5-litre V8 and developing a lusty 340hp, these cars had exceptional performance, accelerating from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds and with a top speed of more than 260km/h. Production of the Griffith 500 ceased in 2001. When new they sold for $218,000.
