The Model T, affectionately known the world over as the Tin Lizzie, was introduced by Henry Ford in October 1908 and the rugged mechanicals, strong performance and great value made it a runaway sales success. It wasn't until 1913 that Ford finally managed to introduced his revolutionary new method of building the Model T, the first moving production line. Mass production really put the Model T on the map and resulted in the famous motto ?available in any colour so long as it's black?, although early cars were sold in a variety of colours. More than 15 million were built between 1908 and 1927, helping transform American society and the Model T is rightly regarded as the most influential automobile of the era. The simple but rugged mechanicals consisted of an L-head four-cylinder developing 20 hp, with a foot-operated planetary gearchange. A transverse semi-elliptic leaf spring at each corner and the wheels were of the wooden-spoked artillery variety with pneumatic tyres. Body styles offered in 1915 included the touring, runabout, sedan, coupelet and town car and a number of Model Ts were sold in chassis form, many of them being exported to Australia. Early Model T Fords, like the example on offer here, are sought after for their brass radiators, headlamps and other fittings.
