Description
One of the most established of the British motorcycle manufacturers, Royal Enfield grew out of the company that made engines, bicycles and firearms - hence the motto "built like a gun, goes like a bullet". Although best known for the Bullet range of singles introduced in 1932, Royal Enfield turned their hand to a far more modern range of bikes pitched at the American market in the Sixties, in a last ditch attempt to compete with the Japanese. Known as the Interceptor, the new model was announced in 1962 and demand soon outstripped supply. One of the biggest and brawniest motorcycles of the era, the Interceptor was seriously quick, capable of turning sub-14 second quarter-mile times and topping 175km/h. Not to be confused with later Indian-made Bullets, the Interceptors were right at the leading edge of performance in their day and still have a remarkably strong following today.
