The Chevrolets produced between 1955 and 1957 have earned the nickname "Tri-Five" and are held in high regard by collectors for their classical styling and more importantly, the introduction of the classic small-block V8 engine to inject some serious performance to the line-up. Each year saw three distinct models offered, from the base level One-Fifty through the mid-level Two-Ten and topping the range was the Bel Air, named after the posh Hollywood suburb. Across these three trim levels Chevrolet offered a wide selection of body styles, from basic sedans to hardtop coupes, a convertible and even the unique Nomad sports wagon. The '56 Bel Air featured a luxuriously appointed interior, with deep pile carpeting, an electric clock and unique chrome moldings and wheel covers. Although the trusty six was still available, the new V8 offered more power but was actually lighter and soon became a favourite with racers and rodders alike, earning the 1955-1957 Chevrolets the sobriquet "The Hot Ones".
