When introduced in 1994 under the new ownership of Ford, the occasional four seater DB7 represented a renaissance for the famous British sports car maker.
Not only did it recapture the style and beauty of the famous David Brown series of Astons introduced with the DB4 in 1959, but it also became the first Aston Martin in the company's then 81 year history to be produced in serious numbers. The 1,000th DB7 was built just 30 months after the model's launch, compared with the total production of all Aston Martins built prior to 1994 of just 11,000.
Employing a Jaguar-sourced 3.2 litre 6 cylinder engine fitted with an Eaton supercharger, the DB7 had strong performance for a luxury grand tourer weighing 1725kg, combined with excellent handling and brakes. The introduction of the DB7 in Australia also represented the foundation for Aston Martin's return to the market where today the DB7's successors are seen as worthy and serious alternatives to the likes of Ferrari, Maserati and Porsche.
