The Daimler Conquest launched in 1953 became the most popular model ever made to carry the fluted radiator of the Coventry marque and was in essence a revamped Lanchester Fourteen with a superb new engine. The short-stroke 2433cc six-cylinder unit produced 75bhp and was mated to the fluid flywheel pre-selector gearbox that even today is surprisingly effective to use.
Other notable features of the new model included chassis lubrication, windscreen washers and even fitted suitcases for the luggage compartment. The Conquest offered the middle class motoring a quality machine, beautifully finished inside and out, without the high costs of running a much larger luxury car. A very attractive Conquest Roadster was also introduced in 1953 and a later variation 'the Conquest Century' even performed well in rallies and circuit races.
