Up until 1980 Harley Davidson touring bikes were mainly FLH and Electra Glides, a growing number of serious long distance tour riders were looking for something bigger, bolder and more comfortable, so Harley came up with the Tour Glide Classic. This modernized V-Twin was a break with tradition and offered a number of improvements including 5 speed transmission, improved steering and suspension, frame mounted fairing with twin headlights,CB radio and numerous other creature comforts. This was Shovelhead engineering at its best and was the flagship of the model line up for this year.
