The third generation Chevy Impala was released for the 1961 model year and ran until 1964. Continuing the theme of full-size luxury, it utilised Chevrolet's B platform and was available with a range of bodies, from coupe to sedan, station wagon to convertible. For '61 Two and Four-door 'hardtops' were also available. Trim remained 'premium' and the triple rear taillight tradition continued on, while the Super Sport option package also made its debut. For 1962 the bodywork was further refreshed and two significant engine changes occurred, with the venerable 283ci small-block being offered in enlarged, 327ci form and the 348ci being replaced with the 'real fine' 409. 1963 carried these engines over but the styling saw another revamp, with sharper lines being employed to bring the look more up to date, getting further away from the '50s fins' era. Impalas from this generation tend to be the most sought after for their crisp Sixties styling, luxuriously spacious interiors and legendary engine combinations.
