The 911 was launched almost 50 years ago, when launched it was deemed a masterpiece and is by now a motoring legend. Retaining the same basic layout of the 356, the 1963 911 now had a 6 cylinder engine and by 1966 its timeless styling and widely recognised shape was about to undergo it's first of many upgrades. The 1967 range included three distinct models: Touring, Luxe & Sport. The latter boasting a more powerful 160hp engine up 30hp from the standard 911,with upgraded suspension including Koni shocks, rear anti roll bar, ventilated disc brakes, the 5 spoke Fuchs alloy wheels and a 9.8:1 compression ratio this new 911 was set to win more admiration. The interior has 2+2 seating with split rear seats that can be folded down to offer further luggage capacity. A 1968 upgrade saw the introduction of ?sportomatic? a clutch less semi-automatic a precursor to todays Tiptronic system. These early short wheelbase 911S models were successful in many of motoring's arenas on the race track, on rally tracks and even as autobahn pursuit vehicles for the German police. Always a driver's car time has not blunted their crisp handling, steering and braking. Not for sale in the USA when new, the 911S had few more than 1,000 examples built, a mere 87 RHD examples were built with sportomatic transmission for 1968 making this car quite rare.
