This '32 Ford Hi-Boy Roadster is the product of a highly innovative project undertaken by automotive students studying at Chisholm Institute, built over an 18 week period from September 2006 at the Frankston and Dandenong campuses. This unique and challenging project was designed with the objective of providing the students with the opportunity to enhance their skills in the Spray Painting, Panel Beating and Mechanical trades by not only building a high quality '32 Roadster but ensuring it met all Australian design rules necessary to gain full registration. Students participated in every aspect of the design, development and build process, including installing mechanical components, fitting the body, fabricating guards and preparing, painting and finishing the vehicle. Built under the guidance of project leader John Wood, who has a wealth of experience from operating his own street rod business for 15 years, the students gained a multitude of new skills and provided significant opportunities for Chisholm to strengthen its relationship with the automotive industry. Since completion, the rod has been displayed at the RACV Car Rally and Victorian Hot Rod Show, receiving high praise from the Hot Rod fraternity and general public regarding the build quality and finish of this unique vehicle. The finished product is a tribute to the skill of the students involved and stands ready for the new owner to simply climb aboard, turn on and enjoy.
