Maitland - Wine Country Swap Meet & Motor Show: Classic Restos - Series 41

By Shannons - Published on 17 June 2019

Fletch travels to Maitland in regional NSW for the Maitland - Wine Country Swap Meet & Motor Show, a community event, fundraiser and lead-up event to the proposed 2020 Hunter Valley All Holden Day.

First up is Allan with a 1949 Hudson, that has gone under a full rebuild after 25 years as a bucket of rust. It took 2 cars to make one complete car with lots of parts and panels from the US. Allan calls it a subtle resto-mod, taking some liberties with the restoration from the original to incorporate some more modern finishes. The Hudson was also a famous Nascar racecar in the early '50s with a top speed of 110mph. It featured in the original 'Cars' movie in 2006, as 'Doc Hudson' in the Hudson Hornet.

Peter brings his classic 1957 Jaguar XK150 to fly the British flag, the car was imported from the UK with some parts from the US and the subject of a complete rebuild in WA, along with further upgrades by the current owner. Back in the 50's British sportscars lead the world with many classics like the MGA, Austin Healey, Jaguar XK 120/140 and 150 like Peter's. Followed in the early '60s by the iconic E- Type Jaguar. Peter recalls his passion for sports cars when he purchased his first MGA for $700 in 1977.

It wouldn't be a car show without one of Australia's most iconic cars, a 1950 Holden 48-215. Ray proudly displays his car that he rebuilt 27 years ago and looks fantastic today. This 1950 Holden features some genuine 29 Holden /Nasco accessories, like the original holden radio fitted under the dash,  the key controlled Jocker - an anti-theft device, pretty nifty back then and many more. Not bad for Australia's first car.

Then there's Natalie, an enthusiast to the core who like many had their interest in cars handed down, in her case from father to daughter. Natalie now gets her hands dirty, maintaining her fathers 1954 FJ Holden Ute and drives the FJ to car shows regularly keeping the legacy alive.
