Every year, AMCN readers help Australian’s ward off the worst of winter with the donation of their un-used riding jackets. Warm, padded, mostly waterproof, well made – if you aren’t using that jacket hanging in the wardrobe, we know people who will!
AMCN is once again teaming up with the legends at Mission Australia to collect your old jackets – we have an office full of them already – ready for distribution at the excellent Sydney Homeless Connect event on 2 July, an annual event designed to offer care and services for the homeless as they enter their toughest period – winter.
The AMCN Jacket Drive has run since 2012, furnishing homeless people around the country with the kind of gear that makes a big difference to those without a roof over their head. There’s not only a practical side to it, the fact a motorcyclist has given up their garment to help someone they don’t even know isn’t lost on the recipients.
If you want to clear up some wardrobe space, help someone battle the elements and essentially help another human having a tough time, package up your riding jacket (all types welcome, though they must be in good condition and respectfully clean, please) and bring it into a drop off point, or send it to the address below. A small amount of time and effort is all it takes.
Please address your clean, good condition jacket to:
Mission Australia Centre
Cnr Cambell and Denham St
Surry Hills, NSW, 2010
Right now! We will be collecting jackets until 31st August, when the drive will wrap up and the donations in other states will be distributed.
