2023 Americarna - Part 1: Classic Restos - Series 52

By Shannons - Published on 31 March 2023

Join Fletch on his journey to New Plymouth on the North Island of New Zealand for the Annual 3-Day Americana event! This year's event promises to showcase the best American-made vehicles, with an expected 900 cars participating.

Day 1 kicked off with a thrilling cruise from New Plymouth to Opunake Beach, where crowds eagerly lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the incredible variety of vehicles on display.

One vehicle that caught Fletch's eye was a rare 1957 Buick Wagon owned by Justine and her partner David. This original beauty has been tastefully modified with lowered suspension and new wheels, showcasing its stunning curves, chrome details, and spectacular paintwork. With its powerful 364 Nailhead V8 engine, it's no surprise that this car is built for speed rather than braking.

Fletch was also impressed by Shane's 1991 Buick Roadmaster Wagon, which he describes as a "late model cool classic". This wide-bodied vehicle imported from Canada in 2005 comfortably seats nine people and boasts an impressive overall presentation.

One of the showstoppers of the day was the 1965 Chrysler 300 Series R/T 2 Door, acquired by proud owner Michael from a car museum in Las Vegas. This limited edition beauty boasts a black exterior with a striking red bumblebee stripe and is powered by a 383 6.2 litre 340hp engine. Michael raves about its immaculate condition, noting that it had been in the museum for fifteen years and has low mileage; it still looks and drives like a brand-new car.

The day's events concluded with a Park Up and Street Party in Inglewood. Where John's 1936 Ford with a supercharged Mercury V8 was on display. This period-correct vehicle is beautifully maintained, showcasing the technical development completed over 36 years. While it may have looked ordinary at first glance, his partner noticed the impressive work under the hood, making it an instant must-have for John.
