Shannons have stepped up to become the title sponsor of Australia’s latest and most spectacular new racing event - Drift Masters - that will be staged at Queensland Raceway, Ipswich on Saturday June 16.
In the inaugural tyre-burning event, 16 of Australia Top Pro drift drivers will compete for a $3,000 cash prize and the coveted Drift King title.
In a separate contest on the day, 40 amateur drivers will be eliminated down to a ’fab four’, who will then compete to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the International Drift Challenge in October at the World Time Attack in Sydney, where they will compete in Rob Whyte's Pro 350z Drift Car as a fully-sponsored driver.
Whyte has become one of the biggest names in the Australian drifting community since starting out in a road-registered and completely standard Nissan 350Z.
With the Nissan highly modified to produce 273kW (500HP) thanks to its supercharged Nismo race engine running on 108 octane E85 race fuel, Whyte took out the 2012 Australian Drifting Championship. He backed this up with a consecutive title win the following season and now has his sights set on building his international drifting career.
To complement its sponsorship, Shannons will also stage a Show and Shine competition in the paddock area of Queensland Raceway on the day, with eight trophies up for grabs. All Show and Shine entrants will go into a track parade during the lunchtime break.
In addition, the completely refurbished Shannons Super Rig will also be on site throughout Drift Masters, offering visitors the opportunity to try their driving skills on its new racing simulators, while also checking out the range of special road and competition cars on display.
