World-class Ducati collection in Shannons Winter Online Auction

A stunning collection of 11 fabulous Italian Ducati sports motorcycles headed by a 916 Senna (build number 278 of 300), a concours-standard restored 1974 750 Sport, an ultra-desirable 2009 1098R Troy Baylis LE and an ‘as-new’ 2013 848 Evo Corse Special Edition that is believed to have travelled just 11,206km is the highlight of Shannons Timed Online Winter Auction from August 15-22.

With 10 of the 52 two and three wheelers in the auction coming from a well-known Queensland Ducati enthusiast, his collection offered for the first time also includes a concours-grade 1985 750 F1 Desmo, a 1978 900SD Darmah and a 1982 900SS (1975 Tribute).

They are amongst two and three wheelers from Italy, Germany, Britain, the United States and Russia in the online auction that features classics from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland .

 

Showing just 10,429km from new, the 1996 916 Senna is an all-time Ducati classic made even more desirable with its set of aftermarket Termigoni high performance exhaust system, although it is being sold with its original pipes.

1974 Ducati 750 Sport Motorcycle

A glorious 1974 Ducati 750 Sport that has received a meticulous ground-up restoration by a Texas (USA) marque specialist and is believed to have travelled a mere 30,337 miles from new, was a personal favourite of the Queensland vendor and is the only bike in the Ducati collection with a reserve price.

World class British Post War motorcycles in the auction include two very collectible 1,000cc classics – a magnificent 1937 Brough Superior SS80 and a 1948 Vincent HRD Rapide Series B (both $80,000-$100,000).

Also from Britain are five great Matchless motorcycles – a 600cc 1932 Silver Arrow ($26,000-$32-000); a 600cc 1932 Silver Hawk ($48,000-$58,000); a 1,000cc 1932 Model X ($26,000-$32,000); a 1950 G80 500cc ($5,000-$8,00) and a 1953 500cc G9 Super Clubman ($6,000-$8,000).

Other great Brits include a 1951 AJS Model 20 500cc ($7,000-$10,000) and 1953 Model 16MS 350cc Trial Bike ($8,000-$10,000); a 1950 Triumph 3T 350cc ($8,000-$10,000); a 500cc 1951 Triumph Tiger 100 ($8,000-$12,000); a 1953 500cc Sunbeam S7 ($12,000-$18,000); a 1952 650cc Triumph Thunderbird 650 Twin ($12,000-$16,000) , a stunning 1970 Triumph T120R Bonneville 650cc – Edward Turner’s last production design at Triumph – $14,000-$18,000 and a very original and desirable 1972 X-75 Hurricane ($38,000-$44,000) are also listed.

Meanwhile two great Ariels are a 1950 Red Hunter 500cc ($16,000-$22,000) and a venerable 1953 1,000cc four cylinder Square Four R8107 ($14,000-$18,000), are also catalogued.

From the United States, there is a sought-after classic 1929 Indian Type 101 750cc that is expected to attract keen bidding and sell in the $50,000-$60,000 range, while Germany is represented by a 500cc 1956 BMW R50 fitted with a matching Steib Sidecar ($35,000-$45,000).

Japanese sports touring bike enthusiasts are well catered for with a 1998 Suzuki GSX-R 1100 in extraordinarily good original condition ($6,000-$10,000) and a 1981 CBX 1000 ($15,000-$20,000), while for collectors there is a fabulous 1975 Kawasaki Z900 ($25,000-$35,000) and a rare rotary-engined 1975 Suzuki RE5 ($18,000-$26,000).

At the other end of the two-wheelers on offer is a circa-1986 reproduction Penny Farthing (bicycle with a 52-inch front wheel) that Shannons expect to sell for $2,000-$4,000.
