Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday is the perfect time for anyone interested in a Classic vehicle to pounce on the rising market.

A respected Melbourne collector is rationalising his collection at the September 17 sale, while a number of other sought-after Euro and British classics and memorabilia are amongst the 76 lots on offer at realistic reserved prices.

The 15 desirable classics offered at ‘no reserve’ include one of the first group of 12 Holden LC Torana XU-1 produced with history, painted in ‘Plum Dinger’ and offered in amazing ‘survivor’ condition (guiding range $130,000-$140,000), a very rare black 1974 Holden LH Torana SL/R 5000 V8 sedan formerly owned  by Holden designer Paul Beranger ($95,000-$110,000), a 1980 HDT VC ‘Brock Commodore ($48,000-$58,000) and a 1972 Ford Mustang ‘Mach 1’ 351 V8 Fastback coupe ($35,000-$45,000).

This restored, four-owner 1949 Riley RMB 2.5 litre Saloon is expected fo sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $10,000-$15,000 range.

The diverse range of ‘no reserve’ Europeans include a celebrity-family owned 1966 Jaguar S-Type 3.8 Automatic saloon and a lovingly-restored 1927 Chevrolet Capitol Delivery van (both $15,000-$20,000), a restored, four-owner 1949 Riley RMB 2.5 litre Saloon ($10,000-$15,000) and a New Zealand-delivered 1953 Peugeot 203 Sedan in complete running condition ($8,000-$12,000).

This one-owner from new Series 3 Mazda RX7 with a full history is expected to bring $15,000-$20,000 when offered with ‘no reserve’

Meanwhile for Japanese sporting car enthusiasts, a one-owner from new Series 3 Mazda RX7 with a full history is expected to bring $15,000-$20,000 with ‘no reserve’, as is a 1969 MGB MkII that has been converted professionally to 4.0-litre Rover V8 power.

This ‘barn find’ 1942 Harley-Davidson WLA 750cc V-Twin in need of recommissioning is expected to command $10,000-$15,000 when it is offered with ’no reserve’.

Two classic motorcycles are also on offer with ‘no reserve’ – a rare 1934 New Imperial 250cc 30 Deluxe solo lovingly-restored over 25 years ($5,000-$8,000) and a ‘barn find’ 1942 Harley-Davidson WLA 750cc V-Twin in need of recommissioning ($10,000-$15,000). 

Other standout affordable classics in the auction include:

• a lovely 1998 XK8 Convertible that is expected to sell for $20,000-$25,000

This rare-in-Australia left hand drive 1970 Porsche 914 1.7-litre Targa coupe in very good, useable condition is expected to bring $26,000-$32,000

• a rare in Australia 1970 Porsche 914 1.7-litre Targa coupe in very good, useable condition ($26,000-$32,000);

 • A restored, three-owner 1960 Holden FB Special Sedan in the rare period colour combination of Desert Glow (pink) and Corona Grey ($22,000-$28,000);

• a 1985 factory-assembled and three-owner Caterham Super Seven Clubman and a 1989 right hand drive Alfa Romeo 2000 Spyder (both $25,000-$35,000);

• a rare 1964 Ford Falcon 260 V8 Futura Coupe in good driver condition ($25,000-$30,000).

Desirable Victorian black and white numerical number plates amongst the 17 in the auction include ‘247’ ($180,000-$220,000), ‘1-155’ ($30,000-$50,000), ’80-085’ ($15,000-$25,000) and the numerically attractive ‘140-140’ ($10,000-$15,000).
