90th Anniversary of the Goulburn Grand Prix

Goulburn is the place to be on the weekend of the 14th and 15th January 2017.
Goulburn is the first inland city and holds claim to many other firsts.

The 90th anniversary of the First Australian Grand Prix for all powers racing cars is here.

On Sunday morning the 15th January 2017 from 9.30am to 12.30pm, at the Goulburn Showground, Celebrate Goulburn Group Inc. are planning a big morning at the showground as one of Goulburns life time residents, Paul Chalker, with the help of Gil Whitehouse and the Group has managed to have completed a memorial to this 1st Grand Prix and its winner, Geoff Meredith, who was also a resident of Windellama, in the Goulburn area for a time in the 1920s.

An invitation is extended to all motorsport enthusiasts and to the residents of Goulburn and surrounds to attend this proud moment for Goulburn as we unveil the memorial.

The celebration will include a static display of historic race cars on Braidwood Road around the Memorial wall, as well as a few laps of the outer track of the showground between 10am and 11am.

Shannons Insurance have been a major sponsor of this Memorial and will also have on display the SHANNONS SUPER RIG. This truck is set up with an indoor memorabilia area, a stage area and a viewing platform above. FREE entry.

Anyone who own vehicles with Grand Prix history are especially invited to display these cars in selected area with a notice as to the significance of the car in the Grand Prix history, and any memorabilia you may have to display would be most welcome. To help make this weekend interesting for visitors to Goulburn, as well as residents, there will be the traditional Bol dor held at WAKEFIELD PARK RACE CIRCUIT to commemorate the anniversary, between 10am and 4pm on SATURDAY 14TH JANUARY 2017. FREE admission also. There is a cafeteria at the circuit and there is also accommodation for the weekend visitors which can be booked direct through Wakefield Park staff on 02 4822 2811.
