Dr John mentions Max Hoffman in his story. He was such an influential east coast American car dealer. He convinced Mercedes, BMW and Porsche to develop models specifically for the US market. Here's a photo of his NYC showroom in the 1950s, with Porches featuring centre stage. The Park Ave showroom was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Without Hoffman's promotional skills it is doubtful Porsche would achieved its early successes in the USA.
