Hope it's not boring everyone, but here are some pics of Lancaster Mews when I was there in 2006. Totally gentrified, and no more does anyone hear the roar of Alfas, Porsches, Alvises, Mini Coopers, MGBs and so on. In the first pic, the workshop was on the left where the white walls are, the Lube bay and service reception were right down the end of the mews where the single door is now. The last pic shows where the main showroom was on the left, John's front door to his house was where the geraniums are. The parts department was where the Merc is parked. One of the original residents lived above our lube bay and used to get upset whenever a car was raised on the hoist with the radio on full bore under her bedroom. I asked her if she was there during the Blitz and she told me in pretty full detail of how the bombs came down, and although there were no direct hits, there was damage done to just about every building. She said in 25 years, I was the only person who ever asked her about what happened. Above the parts department lived the actress who played one of the old ladies in Fawlty Towers. We also sold a fleet of black Minis to the Tremeloes and a white Mini Clubman to Julie Andrews. Being not too far from Buckingham Palace, we also serviced some of the Ladies-in-Waiting's cars; all 1100s or Minis. All gone!
