It was also used successfully for many years as the control engine for Formula Holden (aka Formula Brabham, Formula 4000 etc) from the late 1980s to the mid-2000s. The chassis were mostly ex-European F3000 and the V6 engines produced about 320bhp. They were seriously fast cars but the engines unfortunately produced such a dull, subdued sound and the cars were so glued to the road that spectators weren't really aware of their high speeds and the category never really caught on with the punters. I well remember Holden produced some promotional bumper stickers for the launch of the category that urged spectators to get "The V6 Fix!" but it didn't take long for the scissors to come out and change the wording to "Fix The V6!" They did eventually change the exhaust system to (I think) a six-into-one design which sounded much better, but it wasn't enough to ensure the category's long-term survival. Even so, a competitive life of about 18 years was not too shabby all things considered.
