I took delivery of an Australian spec SAAB 99 GLE in Amsterdam in 1976. Drove it all over Europe and UK before shipping it back to Oz. Great handling and comfort both on German autobahns and Eastern Europe goat tracks. Only problem I had whilst in Europe was getting stuck in London with the car in Park and not being able to turn the ignition key which was mounted on the floor console next to the shift lever. Had to get the RAC to drill out the lock to get me going again. On its first service in Melbourne it was found to have contamination of the auto trans fluid due to the transmission output shaft seal being fitted back to front. This necessitated a transmission rebuild at my cost as SAAB Aust refused to pay. Only 12 months warranty in those days. Reluctantly sold it 12 years later after moving to Qld due lack of support for the marque in that State.
