To TheSnail, I've owned a few Heralds too, my family had several, and none have never had the sort of dramas you speak of. Excellent handling, it saved my butt a few times ! I don't know what you were doing wrong to have handling problems. I removed the eight bolts holding the roof on my Triumph Herald 12/50 Coupe and never had any flexing of the body, or door closing problems. I would drive it for the whole summer like this and bolt roof back on in winter. Never had a problem except for getting rained on once ! Photo below is of my Herald 12/50 Coupe with roof off !
