Another brilliant article. Regarding the first photo of the 1960 Armstrong 500 of Class A competitors leaving the grid; NSU no. 2 is actually stalled. The three NSUs had been three-abreast at the front of the Class A grid. By the time Peter D'Abbs took this snap, the dark Lloyd (which is A7) off the second row of the grid had already overtaken the NSU on the inside; you can see his boot and his dust-trail along the edge of the track. The white Renault 750 (A10) is also heading to the left; about to overtake the stationary NSU. The attached color photo shows A2 still sitting on the grid, surrounded by starting officials, after everyone else had gone. A2 got going well before the leading car, the lone Customline, came around to complete lap 1.
