A pot-pouri of images here; working utes, and converted cars… Three A40 utes, two still earning their keep (towing Toranas may be a Kiwi thing) and one coming into Broken Hill. A70 utes came in handy when Father Christmas could use them as a sleigh in the days before health and safety got involved. Converting cars into utes has been a practice for over a hundred years, but what better than a Jaguar XJ6 for a tradie to get to the job on time? Two from New Zealand – the Austin Maxi was damaged when new, so this enterprising bloke removed the rear, lengthened the whole car and added a canopy from a Holden ute. Often seen at Christchurch swaps, as was this Hillman Super Minx that had similar treatment. Demonstrating that the Morris Majors were built on Morris Minor platforms, this Elite had the back chopped off and the rear cab panel from a Minor Ute seems to fit pretty well. The absence of back doors do make for a perfect low loading height.
