That the HK was merely a widened Opel Rekord. There's a bloke on Curbside classic that regularly posts that 'theory'.
This article appeared in the UK's Autocar magazine in September 1968, not long after the HK Monaro was released. They may have perpetuated the myth by stating that the Holden was much like the Opel Rekord Coupe to look at. The length, width and wheelbase of the Monaro are 184.8", 71.8" & 111.0" and Rekord/Commodore 180.1" 69.1" & 105.0" Quite how you could widen the Opel and lengthen it on a wheelbase 6 inches shorter just doesn't make sense. The Ranger was an Opel Rekord made in Switzerland and South Africa among others. The grille was not unlike an FD Vauxhall Victor's.
