Here's a selection of late '50s covers of both Popular Science and Popular Mechanics. If they had to pay, then Ford had the double whammy in September '57 for the Edsel launch. I doubt whether Rambler paid PS for the Moscow cover; PM had beaten them a month before with a trip inside Russia, but they went in a Vauxhall Victor. The '59 Buick cover pic is quite stunning, but from then on both magazines tended to put more than one make on the cover. One exception was the Valiant, released a month later than the Corvair and Falcon, so they were the lucky ones. Sorry this is a little away from '58 Impalas, and sorry for the state of the covers, but as can be seen, they were read from cover to cover a number of times.
