I bought my E Type in 1980 for the princely sum of $14,000 ... back then you'd find two or three in used car yards any day of the week ... I remember some were repainted bright red when their original body colour was something less than exciting and they were otherwise difficult to shift off the lot ... I looked at a well-used yellow Dino 246 GT too, at $21,000, but that was a full 50% more than the E Type and quite beyond my financial reach ... But, Mark Oastler now says money is no object for my "ultimate classic car" and so I've similarly pondered for days over this assignment ... my 'Jaguar' brain says pick something like a D Type or XKSS, or maybe a Lightweight E Type ... but hey, I've actually chosen another Le Mans heritage classic car that was made available in road trim in limited numbers ... I understand that a total of 31 GT40 Mk1 'road' cars were manufactured in the UK in 1966 by Ford Advanced Vehicles ... the road car 4.7 litre '289' V8 is detuned to 335hp compared to the race car 380hp, but I don't think that will bother me ...
