The first car I remember trying to drive, but was too short to reach the pedals was a 1927 Dodge Four, followed by the parental '38 Chev. The first I could drive without someone else working the pedals was our Mark 1 Zephyr. I got more experience in the 1929 Essex I shared with my brother, but only driving full bore around the paddocks. Then L-Plates on the Mark II Zephyr Wagon which is what I got my licence in. The local cop didn't give me a test as he had seen me driving around town, so assumed I knew how to drive. When I went to London in 1970, had to pass a British Driving Test, so actually had lessons in a Hillman Imp which after a diet of Minis, I really loved.
