Honda Civics also competed in local Group C touring car racing in the 1970s, including the Bathurst 1000. Although very reliable, they never managed a Bathurst win in Class A largely because of that pesky works-entered Datsun 1200 coupe. The Civic’s last Bathurst 1000 appearance was in 1976, after which Class A was cancelled on safety grounds, due to the alarming increase in closing speeds between these small cars and the V8 Falcons and Toranas competing for outright honours.
