Retro, I have a feeling that the MBX Coupe was aimed mainly for export to the West. All the brochures I have seen on them are in English or French. The period up to 1968 was known as the 'Prague Spring' when there was an easing of the dire restrictions imposed by the Soviets. This was when many Western cars were imported into Czechoslovakia - about half of what Skoda exported. France supplied Simcas and Renaults, while Britain contributed Ford Anglias and Cortinas as well as the Hillman Minx. When I was there in 1971 and '72, I was surprised at the amount of Czech registered 'foreign' cars from the West. The commandants were driven around in Tatra 603s, and we witnessed a column of about 20 or 30 black Tatras sweeping up to the Party Headquarters at Hradcany Castle in Prague which was an awesome sight. Some of the Eastern Bloc countries produced some surprises such as the Wartburg 311 Coupes and Convertibles, and even Skoda's own 110R Coupe of the '70s did well in European rallies.
