When the Queensland Austin Club hosted the biennial national get-together in 2017 at Ipswich, we probably brought in about half a million dollars to the area. Motels, camping sites, hotels, service stations, restaurants, local service groups, and musicians all benefited and so therefore, the community. Accommodation and fuel outlets on the way to and from Ipswich would also have benefited. Any weekend, and especially Easter, will see the roads full of classic, hot-rods and vintage cars on their way for national gatherings, so it's more than repairers and restorers who reap the rewards. It would be interesting to know how much money comes into Canberra during Summernats, and I'm sure Rockhampton now welcomes the influx of people spending money with the recent Rockynats event. It's also tourism that benefits, as people generally stay for a longer period to make the most of it.
