AMI certainly had an interesting history in this country, a highlighted in this 1976 publication. They started out by importing Talbots from England and then from 1929 Standard. They started to assemble them in Port Melbourne, and like many Australian companies began to inject improvements to suit local conditions. The local name given name the Phase II Vanguards was Spacemaster, and it with the local Standard Ten sported a chrome kangaroo on the bonnet. Assembly of Mercedes, Rambler and then Toyota came later and as they say, the rest is history.
