Another hot MkII was the unique South African Perana version (below) developed by Basil Green Motors. It was powered by Ford's 3.0-litre V6 which combined with a close-ratio Lotus-Cortina gearbox, enhanced suspension and wider wheels was quite a rocket for its time. Green claimed 8.2 secs for 0-100km/h and 115mph (185km/h) top speed. Like his famous Perana Capri V8, the Perana Cortina V6 was backed by a full Ford new car warranty in SA. I wonder how many were made? And how many have survived?
