Around the world there is a growing class of super rich people to whom the upmarket manufacturers are catering. Brand positioning is critical here. Bentley is doing a better job than some and certainly has no trouble selling the cars it makes. It is more difficult for, say, Jaguar and Maserati to position themselves but it's interesting to see that the 'entry level' Ghibli sedan is selling so well. It reminds me of when everyone had to have a 3-Series Bimmer. Note, too, how Volkswagen re-positioned Bentley significantly below Rolls-Royce and has arguably been more successful in redefining the brand, although opinions will differ. (I also think the Ghibli as a less expensive bespoke sports sedan makes more marketing sense than the Levante SUV. What do members think?
