Well, I had the carby rebuild done over Christmas. She drove wonderfully all through January. I was away all Feb, but had a friend turn her over once a week. Came back in March, and have had a reoccurring, intermittent problem :( She will drive perfectly fine, then with no warning she will hiccup and the engine will just cut out, and she will gracefully roll to a stop. I can try turning her over, but nothing. If I wait maybe half an hour, bingo, off she will go again with no problems. By the time NRMA arrives, she restarts. By the time she gets towed to the mechanic, she is running fine. Mechanic can't find what is causing this. He has spent ages trying to replicate the cut-out, but it hasn't happened for him. I live in a valley, so have a flat road for 10 mins, then uphill in the morning, then flat road into work. Then same in the evening, just downhill to get home. The engine has stopped going up the mountain, and on the flat... Mechanic says he can't tell if it is fuel related (it has happened with a 1/4 tank fuel, and a full tank fuel); or whether it might be related to the electrics. He says next time it happens to check if there's any 'spark' when I try turning it over... but I usually am alone, and no-one ever stops when I'm broken down by side of road... I thought it was carby-related, and was annoyed that he wouldn't recheck his work. Maybe the cup/bowl in the carby was set wrong, and she was fuel-starved. But he had a long chat to me and talked it thru, saying if that was the case she would cut out going around corners and going up or down steep bits of the road. Which sounds reasonable, and is not what is happening... He's said that it might be the ignition coil. And once he gets some info on the 'spark' issue, that will help him decide. I'm at the stage where if it happens again, I think I should just get the ignition coil replaced and hope that's it. He says it's a slippery slope - we can get that replaced, and it might not be it, so then we'll replace something else, and it might not be it, etc etc (till I've got a fully-rebuilt car!) It's a mystery because it is so random. And by the time I get her to the mechanic, she is working fine again...In between time, she drives perfectly - no problems at all... It has happened about 6 times in the last few weeks. Any thoughts on this annoying problem? (Well, besides putting in a new motor, which I'm not sure we're up to yet :) )
