Another favourite of mine is the Austin A90 Westminster. Provided you could put up with that awful column gear shift and equally appalling dash, they were tough old girls, suitable for indifferent country roads where we lived. Tuned to Austin-Healey specs and a floor shift, they were no slouch. Looking through prices in a late 1955 Wheels magazine, they weren't bad value at £1300, compared to an FJ Special at £1044, Customline £1700 and Mark VII Jag at £2200. Unfortunately, Dr John, we didn't see the 2.4 Litre Jaguar, Peugeot 403 or DS Citroen in Australia until later in 1956. I agree though that the 403/404 duo was what this country should probably have had.
