Emissions regulations stifled the BMC 1275 engine, so the Triumph 1500 motor, already modified to suit the US emissions regulations, was fitted to the MK 4 Midget, along with an increased ride height and those heavy polyurethane bumpers to comply with crash/safety regulations. And yes, the A series head needed valve seat inserts. With my 1275 Mk3, I had to use a fuel additive every time I filled up.
